The
goals of the Cell Culture Laboratory at LECOM are twofold. The first facet
of our research focuses on studies revealing the roles of the carbonic anhydrase
isozymes in homeostasis and metabolism, and their relevance to disease.
The
second arm of our laboratory focuses on the effects of lycopene on prostate
cancer. Our main objective has been to establish inhibition of prostate cancer
cell (PC-3) growth with lycopene, a plant carotenoid found in high concentrations,
most notably in tomatoes.
